Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
This course signup is for all 4 maths classes in purple block! That's Daniel, Lindsay, and Kay/Jonathan's classes. Students will be distributed among the different classes based on their current learning needs. Please be prepared to have an open mind about which LA you might be assigned to for this term.
This term we will be looking at how algebra and graphs can be used to solve a variety of interesting problems. We will also continue to work on our basic number skills.
Algebra and graphs are essential for anyone interested in science, business, mathematics, and other applications, and are a core part of maths. Algebra also helps you to solve many reasoning, logic, and pattern problems.
Graphing is a critical tool for visualising and understanding data in hundreds of different applications.
Skills we will build include:
- Understanding what algebra is and why it's useful
- Finding patterns
- Solving equations that include algebra
- Simplifying expressions
- Graphing on an axis
- Using computer programs to graph data and solve problems
- Applications of algebra and graphing
- Foundational number skills
Students should bring a maths exercise book for this class i.e. a 1J5 or 1E8, a pen/pencil, a ruler and, if possible, a scientific calculator.
