Mathematics & Statistics
Document outlining 2024/2025 Mathematics plan.
Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
This course is generally restricted to Year 12 and 13 students and others with permission. It's purpose is to support students to pass the numeracy co-requisite assessment, which is mandatory to gain any NCEA qualification. It is not designed to support a pathway into further study in Mathematics.
Most students in this class will be working towards sitting the co-requisite at the next available opportunity towards the end of term. However, depending on where students are at, obtaining Numeracy may be a two year process and they will still benefit from the course even if their intention is not to pass this year.
There will also be the opportunity for some students to attempt a Level 2 budgeting standard if they have passed their co-requisite and want to do further valuable work.
The course will run as a mix of teacher-led instruction and self-directed learning. It is designed to help build confidence and understanding with essential concepts and problem solving, and will be taught in context as much as possible. We largely covered key skills in the first two terms, so will focus on applying our knowledge to problems in real life contexts.
