Mathematics & Statistics
Document outlining 2024/2025 Mathematics plan.
Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
Level 1 NCEA Mathematics and Statistics
Term 4 continues with locking in on the skills needed for the NCEA Level 1 external standard AS91947: Demonstrate mathematical reasoning.
Pāngarau | Mathematical Reasoning
AS 91947 - External Assessment, 5 Credits
This standard assesses your ability to apply mathematical methods and explain your reasoning across a broad range of topics, including:
- algebraic skills - rearranging formulae, expanding, factorising, and solving
- linear relationships - finding and interpreting gradients, intercepts, and equations
- inequations - solving inequations and using them to represent constraints
- simultaneous equations - solving using elimination or substitution
- quadratic relationships - factorising, finding roots and intercepts, and identifying turning points
- exponential relationships - recognising and modelling repeated growth or decay
- Pythagoras and trigonometry - finding unknown lengths and angles
- measurement - calculating volumes and surface areas, including for compound shapes
You may need to connect equations, graphs, tables, diagrams, and written information as part of solving a problem.
The emphasis is on showing clear mathematical reasoning and communicating how you reached your answer, rather than simply giving the final result.
