Mathematics & Statistics
Document outlining 2024/2025 Mathematics plan.
Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
This class is designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of fractions, decimals, and percentages and to statistical investigation and probability.
The course will be covering the basics including how to read and write fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as how to perform basic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ākonga will also learn how to simplify and convert fractions into decimals and percentages. Learners will engage in a variety of activities and exercises designed to reinforce their understanding of these important mathematical concepts.
We are also going to introduce ākonga to the principles of statistical investigation and probability. Students will learn how to collect and analyse data, as well as how to make predictions and draw conclusions based on that data. The class will then move on to cover the basics of probability and how to apply probability to real-world situations such as games of chance.
Students need a 1E5 workbook, pencil, ruler and rubber.
Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate an understanding of how to perform basic operations using decimals, percentages and fractions, to simplify fractions and convert numbers between fractions, decimals, and percentages.
2. Perform and complete a statistical investigation including collecting, organising, analysing and interpreting data.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of probability and apply them to real-world problems such as games of chance.
Monday's class is taught by Libby, Wednesday and Thursday's classes are taught by Suze.
