Mathematics & Statistics
Document outlining 2024 Mathematics plan.
Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
This class is intended for students who intend to do and use Mathematics to and beyond year 13. It will give you the academic skills needed to access Level 2 Mathematics. As such the standards offered in this course are the external standards. We also endeavour to do the linear algebra internal early in term 3.
As a minimum you will require a (preferably Casio) scientific calculator.
First we'll look at geometric reasoning. This includes - excitingly Pythagoras' therom and Trigonometry - where you'll meet your new friend sine, cosine and tangent. Watch out for tangent, they have a tendancy to take you off track. We'll also look at cirles and the angles they form.
We'll then move to our first algebra standard, starting to understand the relationship between graphs and lines. Access to a device (for Desmos) and a graphics calculator for this standard may be adventageous.
